Job Description How does it feel to work on a team driven to make a big impact? Empowering.BAE Systems is seeking an Occupational Safety & Industrial Hygiene Specialist to support the Norfolk, VA Ship Repair site. Reporting to the Safety Manager, you will work independently focusing on the site's occupational safety and industrial hygiene programs. You'll support health and safety while working with stakeholders at BAE Systems to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations. - Manage the site Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene Programs, including identification, evaluation, control and monitoring of workplace hazards.
- Conduct air and noise monitoring.
- Maintain sampling equipment for certification and calibration.
- Keep leadership informed of activities in support of the IH/OH programs and changes in conditions, which could impact established hazard controls and production in general (e.g. quality, schedule, and budget).
- Coordinate project tasks with safety and health staff and contractors, addressing proposed activities, resources, and preparation for safe operations.
- Conduct audits, briefings/meetings, as required.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, management, regulators, and other external or third parties.
- Serve as the technical representative of the IH program, managing activities, priorities, and risks.
- Foster opportunities to improve IH project performance, program execution, management and employee expectations, sample data quality, and overall value for the company and its employees.
- Review reports, testing results, and provide remedies.
- Administer recordkeeping processes.
- Conduct Safety and Health internal audits and inspections to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Assist with identifying, reporting, and completing incidents and investigations.
- Review and update Safety and Health programs and procedures for compliance and continuous improvement.
- Develop and provide training to our team.Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Safety or a related discipline and two (2) years of experience, or the overall equivalent;
- Experience with Industrial Hygiene (IH) sampling and reporting;
- Specific training/knowledge/experience in chemical management, ergonomics, air and noise monitoring, hazard analysis, incident investigations and exposure controls for previously referenced hazards;
- Ability to prepare and present monitoring results to all employee groups;
- Knowledgeable in applicable Health and Safety regulations and management principles;
- Excellent communication skills with ability to share complex information effectively with employees and all levels of site management;
- Experience helping to facilitate meetings and working groups;
- Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative individually as this position is performed with a high degree of independence and minimal supervision;
- Efficient in time management, prioritizing tasks and projects, and possess exceptional organizational skills;
- Demonstrated skills using PC-based spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel, Access); Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and EHS management systems platforms;
- Familiar with and/or able to support on site in a shipyard environment;
- Able to support occasional travel of Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
