Maintenance Worker I

Solid Waste / Convenience Center

Campbell County is currently seeking a full-time Maintenance Worker for our Solid Waste Landfill & Convenience Centers throughout the County. This is a day position with full benefits including health care and VRS Retirement as well as a generous leave policy. The successful candidate will perform the following outlined duties.

Performs with excellence, the following tasks, including but not limited to:

• Performs or assists with routine maintenance and operations of Solid Waste buildings, grounds and facilities including the closed portion of the Landfill;
• Monitors Convenience Centers, as needed, for illegal and/or hazardous waste and directs customers for proper disposal per county policy;
• Operates Equipment at convenience centers/landfill;
• Ensures equipment and collection containers are being used properly and being filled to capacity before pulling;
• Coordinates with Solid Waste Leadership concerning container capacity and pull scheduling
• Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment as needed;
• Moves equipment, supplies as requested;
• Cuts grass, weed eats, trims trees as needed;
• Shovels and pushes snow and applies chemicals to walkways as necessary;
• Assists with special projects as needed or directed;
• Performs other duties as assigned or required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • One year of related experience
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License and insurable under County's Policy.
  • Requires completion of National Incident Management System IS-700 and IS-100 within 90 days of employment. Core Skill Sets:
    • Knowledge of basic safety as it relates to maintenance;
    • Knowledge of State Code regarding Landfill, including identification of hazardous waste
    • and other required training
    • Ability to safely operate grass cutting equipment;
    • Basic working knowledge of hand and power tools;
    • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time;
    • Basic understanding and ability to utilize the county's adopted software platform. More...
