The position provides support to the company's development operations and other business units. Experience with large scale construction and/or power projects is preferred.This position will reside in one of our key people centers: Overland Park, KS; Irving, TX; Richmond, VA; Duluth, GA; Ashburn, VA.RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned): - Oversee legal aspects of the company's construction and procurement contracting terms and process; work with the company's Development team in negotiating and managing construction contracts.
- Oversee legal aspects of the company's energy/utilities procurement program (including renewables); work with the company's Development team to secure power and utilities to the company's projects.
- Advise on regulatory matters regarding energy and utilities.
- Advise on regulatory, health, and environmental matters regarding development projects.
- Negotiate and work with the company's contractors and utility providers.
- Negotiate and structure project-related documents, including vendor/supply agreements, O&M agreements, offtake agreements, and other similar agreements.
- Support project financing transactions.
- Assist with a variety of other legal matters such as regulatory matters, permitting, environmental, due diligence, and real estate, as well as various other transactional matters and agreements as needed.
- Work with and manage outside counsel, partners, customers, counterparties, and other third parties, as needed.
- Perform a broad range of legal matters and general business matters based on the needs of the company, as may be assigned by the General Counsel.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school with strong academic credentials.
- Admission to the Bar of a U.S. state or the District of Columbia.
- Seven or more years of legal experience as a practicing lawyer working in the area of design, engineering, and construction contracting (representing contractors, owners, and developers).
- Legal experience with, or willingness to learn, regulations and contracting for energy and utilities procurement and/or power or power-related projects.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
