The Allen School is seeking outstanding candidates for the position of Technical Applications Lead.The Technical Applications Lead (payroll title: Research Scientist/Engineer 4) supports research being conducted by faculty and graduate students in the Taskar Center for Accessible Technology. This position will support the Transportation Data Equity Initiative project sponsored by the USDOT ITS4US program. This innovative data infrastructure project seeks to enable mobility equity by creating an interoperable, shared data infrastructure. Detailed, accurate data about pedestrian networks and travel environments is crucial for any trip planner or mobile application, particularly for applications serving the needs of people with disabilities and other underserved populations.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide scientific and project leadership in the role of Technical Applications Lead.
  • Complete and manage ongoing University required elements of the Transportation Data Equity Initiative (TDEI) grant.
  • Responsible for the technical applications internal to the interoperable data infrastructure, including data extraction and transformation.
  • Research best practices and develop application data tools that interface with data consumers and producers.
  • Serve as primary liaison with partners both virtually and in person.
  • Travel to partner communities and assist in community engagement workshops.
  • Provide ongoing automation for quality control, vetting, security, and privacy for data collection.
  • Resolve deployment and evaluation issues.
  • Use advanced project planning techniques to manage project status and interface with customers/grant sponsors.
  • Analyze and compile results for academic publication.
  • Assist in the development of future grant proposals.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • PhD in Computer Science or a related field, and at least 2 years of related research experience.
  • Proficiency in at least 3 of the listed proficiencies in the following categories:
    • Data exploration with tools like pandas, R, SQL.
    • Full-stack web development, VCS including Git, Docker.
    • Programming languages: Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Kotlin, Rust, R, SQL, Shell.
    • Experience with unstructured data: NLTK, MongoDB.
    • Data visualization skills using ggplot2, Matplotlib, etc.
    • Machine learning knowledge, including scikit-learn.Excellent technical writing, communication, and time management skills are required.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Familiarity with C, MATLAB/Octave, and Ruby.
