Job Summary: A Neurology Registered Nurse (Neuro RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients with neurological conditions, such as stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI), seizures, spinal cord injuries, and other complex neurological disorders. The Neuro RN focuses on assessing, planning, and managing patient care in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes for patients with neurological conditions. Key Responsibilities: - Assess, plan, and provide care for patients with neurological conditions, including stroke, seizures, traumatic brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries.
- Monitor and evaluate patients' neurological status, including vital signs, neurological function, and response to treatment.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, and interventions specific to neurological conditions, such as anti-seizure medications, pain management, and neuro-specific treatments.
- Collaborate with physicians, neurologists, therapists, and other healthcare providers to develop and adjust care plans based on patients' evolving neurological needs.
- Perform neurological assessments, including Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), pupil reactions, and motor/sensory checks, to detect changes in neurological status.
- Provide education and support to patients and families on managing neurological disorders, including rehabilitation, medication adherence, and symptom management.
- Recognize and respond to neurological emergencies, such as seizures, increased intracranial pressure, and stroke, implementing appropriate interventions.
- Manage and monitor invasive procedures such as ventriculostomy, central lines, or ICP monitoring.
- Document neurological assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes accurately and in compliance with hospital policies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care, including working closely with therapists, social workers, and discharge planners.
Qualifications: - Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
